PLANET ROCK
A number of years ago one hundred and forty two 7” vinyl singles, some in picture sleeves, some in label logo bags were boxed up and put into storage. The package then subsequently travelled in a house move from one end of the country to the other.
When the time came to unbox and play the singles the package was found to have succumbed to damp and mould growth, the sleeves and records had fused together with the sleeves being beyond recovery. In order to try and rescue the records they were submerged in water with a mild cleaning solution for a few days to separate them and then left to dry after the mush of sleeves and labels had been carefully removed. A large number of the labels on the records had partially come off and the inks had faded and run. The singles are all still playable and for those with damaged labels the only way to identify them was to listen to them.
23 of the more graphically interesting ones were photographed and post processed to create this series.
